Midwest

OFTEN REFERRED TO as “fly-over country,” the American Mid-West has some of the most under- rated architectural treasures in the country. My favorite trips have been those in which you wonder off the highway and into the local roads. Picturesque barns—a master class in designing with lumber—and grandiose civic buildings built with Indiana limestone are just a couple of examples of what I enjoy most about my travels in this region.

Barns are a testament to how the functional can be made beautiful.

Indiana limestone is one of my favorite architectural stones. I love how it makes a civic building more stately.
