AMERICAN CUISINE shines best in Southern culture, but so do their old cities and architectural traditions. Southern cities have transformed the way I think about vernacular buildings in English colonial cities. Furthermore, to see the evolution of American architecture—colonial, federal, greek revival, etc.— all within a walkable city is an educational opportunity worth going back for.
Seeing the work of masters like Philip Shutze and Richard Morris Hunt in such beautiful natural settings is truly inspiring.
