From Savannah’s rational ward system to Charleston’s organic grid growth, Southern cities have transformed the way I think about vernacular buildings in English colonial cities. Furthermore, to see the evolution of American architecture—colonial, federal, greek revival, etc.— all within a walkable city is an educational opportunity worth going back for.
