American South
AMERICAN CUISINE shines best in Southern culture, but so do their old cities and architectural traditions. From Savannah’s rational ward system to Charleston’s organic grid growth, Southern cities have transformed the way I think about vernacular buildings in English colonial cities. Furthermore, to see the evolution of American architecture—colonial, federal, greek revival, etc.— all within a walkable city is an educational opportunity worth going back for.

Charleston is such an idyllic city. Walkable, beautiful, and authentically livable.

Seeing the work of masters like Philip Shutze and Richard Morris Hunt in such beautiful natural settings is truly inspiring.
