STANDING ATOP the Mayan temples of Tikal and at the volcanic peak at Acatenango, are two intertwined experiences: the former tells the story of great achievements by ancient civilizations and the power of man to do great things, and the latter humbles you with awe for God’s majestic creation, showing you just how small man is amidst the titans of nature.

My favorite experience in Tikal was watching the jungle go to sleep as the sun was setting over the temples that rise above the canopy.

I have always been fascinated with Guatemala’s volcanoes. They all create a spectacular enfilade that stretches the entire country.
